Q&A with Brianna Martindale, Foothill Christian School’s new Spanish Teacher
Editor’s Note: This is Part II of a two part interview with Brianna Martindale, Foothill Christian School’s new Spanish teacher. She is taking the place of Senora Nicely, who moved to New York this summer to be closer to family. Welcome Senorita Martindale!
FCS: When did you develop such a love for teaching Spanish? Have there been opportunities for you to use it in other Spanish-speaking countries?
Miss Martindale: Honestly, there was never a definitive moment when I decided that I wanted to teach Spanish. My entire journey with the language has been a series of God opening doors that I never even expected.
FCS: How did your journey begin?
Miss Martindale: One of my Spanish professors came to me during my freshman year of college and told me that I should major in Spanish, so I simply decided to make it my minor. Then God opened up the opportunity for me to study abroad in the Dominican Republic for three months. I lived with an incredible family (who I still go back to visit and call as often as I can!).
FCS: Was the experience of living in the DR pivotal for you?
Miss Martindale: Absolutely! Though I had already studied Spanish for six years, living in the DR was a huge turning point in my love of the language and my desire to use it in my future endeavors. It paved the way for me to be here at Foothill Christian, where I am absolutely thrilled to have the privilege of teaching Spanish.
FCS: We’d love to know more about your family and personal interests.
Miss Martindale: I come from a wonderful family. My parents are my biggest fans and my older sister and younger brother are two of my best friends.
FCS: You mentioned earlier coming from a family of educators. Your mother taught locally, didn’t she?
Miss Martindale: That’s right. She was both an elementary and middle school teacher (special education) for 23 years in Azusa.
FCS: Tell us a little about your boyfriend. He sounds like a pretty special person.
Miss Martindale: I have an incredible boyfriend (Josh Prince) who is actually just coming back from studying abroad in Mexico this summer.
FCS: And isn’t he one of Foothill’s very own?
Miss Martindale: Yes! He graduated from Foothill back in 2003.
