The unthinkable has happened again. A gunman enters the classroom of an elementary school in Connecticut and opens fire, claiming the lives of 27, most of whom are children. It all happened this morning and the news in absolutely numbing. We can’t even begin to fathom the intensity of grief and severity of pain that these families and children—the survivors—are knowing right now. It is one of those moments in time that will forever be embedded in their memories. And it happens at a time of the year when we traditionally stop our routine to enjoy and celebrate the birth of our Savior, who came to earth so that we would know His peace, His saving grace, His love. We know that, in Christ, He alone makes it possible to transcend even the deepest wounds and it is to Him who we call upon today, this very hour. May His mighty presence be there for every Mom, every Dad, every child, every loved one whose life has been turned upside today. Our heart-felt prayers ascend to the throne before our loving God whose tender embrace and healing balm is so desperately needed right now. May our thoughts and prayers resonate with the psalmist who wrote long ago: “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.” (Psalm 62:5)
