Time is running out! Who isn’t bombarded by that message these days? For the holiday shopper, time is running out for those special holiday sales because there are only X days left until Christmas. Time is also running out for anyone seriously considering the Mayan calendar and the ominous end of the world which they say should take place TODAY, on 12-21-2012. If you belong to that group, you’re off the hook and don’t need to worry about doing any last-minute Christmas shopping, preparing for a holiday feast, or spending time with friends and loved ones. What’s more, you won’t have to fret one little bit about any New Year’s Eve bash, or watching floats parade down Colorado Blvd., or being riveted to the TV for the Rose Bowl game because the world won’t be around anymore.
Seriously, it’s hard to believe that anyone could get too terribly wrapped up with this week’s end of show, but for generations upon generations, we know from history that this cycle continues. There are always those who will find some reason to see signs and developments that point to the ultimate curtain call. However, if we’re going to make a lot of noise about anything, let’s use the season to proclaim the Good News of a Savior who came as a child to ultimately die on the cross and rise again Easter morning. He came to earth to give His life a ransom for many. Because of this unfathomable act of love, we will live in eternity with the very one who created this world, the very one who will ultimately determine when the ages end. Let’s make a commotion, alright, by shouting to the rooftops the hope we have in the newborn King whose humble birth we celebrate this Christmas!
