Editor’s Note: This time every year, Foothill is invited to submit student essays to the Glendoran Magazine. If published, the essay will appear in a special Youth Edition this coming fall. Essays are reviewed by magazine staff , who make the final decision about which ones will appear in print. We are submitting 14 essays, which reflect the creative work of our 5th through 8th grade students. This week, we feature essays by Cassie Martinez (6th grade) and Tyler Shulkin (8th grade). Special thanks to Miss Thompson and Miss Leffin for encouraging the students to participate in this community project.

Tyler Shulkin, 8th Grade | BASEBALL COACH
Do you play baseball? Do you have a coach that really loves the game? Have you ever had anyone who really inspires you? It is important to identify the significance of coaches these days.
There is only one word that describes my coach, Zach, and that word is passionate. His passion for the games of baseball is so great you cant explain it. During practices he shows us how to do the drills unlike most coaches who may just expect the kids to know how to do it. Coach Zach is an amazing coach with much passion for the game of baseball.
At practices Coach Zach pushes my whole team to do their best, but he pushes me to my limits because he knows what I am capable of doing. During practice he will run with us, throw us batting practice, warm up the players who come late, teach us if we are doing something wrong, and a million other things. It is a blessing to have a coach who cares so much.
A third thing that my coach does is get excited at games. At games he is so excited he will run in the dugout and start a little chant or just starts jumping up and down, getting the whole team excited. During games my coach will pull us aside and teach us what we did wrong during a play.
Last but not least when my coach tells me that it takes hard work and dedication it really helps to get all of these reasons are why my baseball coach is awesome. I hope more coaches like coach Zach decide to coach.
