Last year our preschool staff and school administration began the process of developing a mission statement that would clearly articulate the ethos of our preschool. We wanted our mission statement to distinctly state FCP’s purpose while coinciding with our core values as a ministry of Foothill Church. We wanted current and perspective families to read our mission statement and know exactly where FCP is going. We wanted our mission statement to act as a compass for our preschool staff and administration, guiding every organizational decision. In other words, we wanted our mission statement to answer the basic question, “Why does FCP exist?”
As the “melding of the minds” ensued key words and phrases began to resonate with our group, words such as nurture, safe, God-honoring and the phrase Learn-Explore-Grow became a unanimous favorite. We knew we were close but needed a few more brainstorming sessions or so we thought… One afternoon as preschool director, Vicky Gutzwiller, sat in on an ACSI marketing seminar the words and phrases began to take form. According to Mrs. Gutzwiller, she began to jot down her thoughts and with the Lords help, within a matter of minutes our new mission statement was created! And now it gives me great pleasure to present:
Foothill Christian Preschool is a place where children can LEARN, EXPLORE and GROW in a nurturing and safe environment that honors Christ.
Colossians 3:23 from God’s word, instructs us to do our best work as unto the Lord and now with our new mission statement we can accomplish that work with purpose! Our new mission statement will appear on our school website, preschool literature and advertisements.
Mohandas Mohatma Gandhi once said, “A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.” We’re on our way!
