The second DR team of this school year arrived yesterday after a long day of traveling. After a good night sleep and breakfast- it was time to hit the ground running.
The foundation is typically closed on Sunday because the local baseball teams practice on Manny’s fields. The boys from FCS didn’t mind. They jumped right in to play a game with them. Kyle, one of our students who plays water polo, hit a home run his first time up to bat!
The girls and some parents helped sort all of the donations while a group of dads went to Charro’s school (the small school) to start a construction project. The dads are building walls around the outside porch so Charro can have another indoor classroom. From what it sounds like, it’s going to be a pretty big work project!
The dads found help from some local kids at the foundation. These four young boys were so excited to help carry dirt away from the construction site. It was neat to watch the two groups work together and interact.
We also set up the medical clinic and saw our first few patients. Dr. Khedia was busy cleaning out a lot of infections on kids feet and legs. Mr. Gindi, an FCS parent and pharmacist who came on the trip in November, arrived today to the foundation to help Dr. Khedia with the clinic. Mr. Gindi brought some medicine in his luggage that ended up being detained by the DR customs so we have to go pick it up tomorrow. We’re hoping all of it is still there.
All in all, it was a good first day! Excited for what the rest of the week has in store for us!
