Preschool Enrollment – A Worthwhile Vigil
Some stood sipping cups of hot coffee, others sat wrapped in blankets in their lawn chairs, still others propped themselves against the stucco wall to wait it out. This determined crowd of preschool parents showed up in force to endure the predawn chill one Saturday morning last month.
For what purpose? To make certain their children were enrolled in the 2017 summer and fall sessions.
Preschool staffer, Annie Culbertson, saw the first parents arrive shortly after midnight. Others followed by the dozens until doors opened at 7:30 a.m. when staff began processing registrations over the next two hours.
In front of the Route 66 complex, parents formed a long line that wrapped around the corner of the building. In all, 64 new preschoolers were enrolled that morning, no families turned away or placed on waiting lists. It was a good morning!
“Was it worth the wait, the cold, and all the standing?” we asked one parent. “You better believe it,” this dad responded. “Hey, it was just a little sacrifice of time and comfort on our part. I’d do it again in a heartbeat to make sure my kid comes to this place.”
A worthwhile vigil, indeed!
