It was a great day to be an FCS Eagle on Saturday, November 23rd, as students, teachers, and friends continued to pour onto the streets of downtown Glendora. It was the day we had all been anticipating, the Bryan Clay Fit4Fall 5k! Many schools in Glendora competed to have the highest participation in hopes of winning a trophy with the title, Glendora’s Fittest School, and a grand prize of $5,000. Little did they know that the small, private school on Baseline Road would flood Glendora Avenue with an outrageous amount of neon, representing Foothill Christian School. Coach K, the Athletic Director of FCS, had special shirts made for participants on Team Foothill Christian, which inspired many to sign up for the race as the deadline drew nearer. In the previous months, the junior high cheerleaders, better known as the Competition Squad, used their school spirit to encourage students, staff, friends, and family to join the FCS team in this 3.1 mile run.
By the morning of the race, Foothill Christian School had nearly 200 participants representing them. What pride we felt as we lined up at the starting line and heard the gun shot go off. It meant we were only 3.1 miles away from finding out if we had won. With little surprise, but great excitement, Bryan Clay awarded Foothill Christian School with $5,000 and a huge trophy that read, “Glendora’s Fittest School.” We had done it! Everyone jumped for joy and took turns taking pictures with our well-deserved prizes. We left the race that day as leaders of fitness in the city of Glendora, so proud to be a part of Foothill Christian School, but even more so, proud to so openly exclaim our school name to the public. For in it, God is represented, and if our God is with us, who could stand against us?
The money that was earned at this event will help the Competition Squad travel to Florida to compete nationally through the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders. It will also assist our Athletic program.
